Stores Tablet Rollout Has Green Benefit

POSTED UNDER Recycling & Waste Reduction

An exciting new technology rolled out to Macy’s stores does more than increase efficiency – it’s boosting sustainability efforts, as well.  In our Earth Week 2015 contest, making store reporting electronic was one of the most suggested changes, and now it’s become a reality. With 5,500 tablets now in the hands of store executives across the nation, we’re creating a more personal shopping experience for our customers and eliminating tremendous volumes of paper. In fact, the tablet rollout combined with updates to the MyStore app means our associates are able to be nearly 100 percent paperless in their day-to-day operations.

Since paper can account for up to 50 percent of the total office waste stream and approximately 25 percent of global landfill waste, that’s a huge impact – converting to a more digital workflow can have far-reaching benefits.

Updates to the MyStore app have had a staggering effect. Stores using it have reduced fitting room rods by 13 percent.  Executives report that the use of tablets and the MyStore app have reduced the need for meetings and allowed more time for on-the-floor collaboration – which means new ideas, enhanced coaching, a better customer experience, and better business results. Combined with reduced paper usage and a smaller carbon footprint, it’s a big win all the way around.
