Macy’s Supports Creation of New Green Space and Urban Oasis in New York

POSTED UNDER In Our Community

Ever wonder what happens to the beautiful flowers and plants that are a part of Macy’s Flower Shows once the shows are over? In New York, they become a part of the city’s urban gardens – formerly abandoned, empty lots that, thanks to Macy’s, are oases in the city.

For three years, Macy’s has donated flowers, shrubs and trees that will survive the climate of New York City. A typical community garden includes flowers, plants and trees, as well as places to sit and areas for children to play.

Starting now through 2024, Macy’s will donate the Okami Cherry Trees from the spring Flower Show to the Million Trees NYC campaign, an initiative to plant one million trees throughout New York City’s five boroughs by 2017. The tree campaign’s goal is to make the city more environmentally sustainable. This initiative may take the cake as Macy’s most beautiful recycling program.
