Another Bloomingdale’s Store Finds the Light with Solar Power

The Bloomingdale’s in White Plains, New York, is the third store to harness the power of the sun with a 400 kilowatt solar installation. Its 1,606 solar panels occupy 40,422 feet of rooftop space. This solar system is expected to be the sixteenth largest installation within the state of New York. (Source: The Open PV Project from the U.S. Department of Energy)

The energy produced in the first year by the White Plains project is expected to be 493,785 kilowatt hours, equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 72 cars. That’s also enough electricity to power 44 average U.S. homes for one year - all of this from just one store.

Bloomingdale’s has two other solar projects in operation located in Hackensack and Wayne, New Jersey, generating a combined 851,815 kilowatts of electricity. Bloomingdale’s is catching the rays thanks to solar energy. Here’s hoping the solar installations continue increasing, both in frequency and size.
