Saving Energy with the Lights On

POSTED UNDER By Our Associates

It’s inevitable that some places in any Macy’s location will have to be lit up around the clock. As much as we value saving energy, the safety of our employees is top priority. The parking garage at Macy’s Credit and Customer Services (MCCS) West had 80 - 215 watt lighting that was turned on 24 hours a day. These lights only had a life span of about 22 months.

These energy sucking bulbs were replaced with LED lights, and the average life span increased to more than 11 years. Seventy-five percent of the lights were replaced with 60-90 watt LEDs, yielding a cost savings of $14,655 each year in energy and maintenance. The cost of the initial start-up will be covered in less than two years.

MCCS West plans to replace additional 24-hour lights with LEDs in areas such as the lobby and certain outside safety lights. Just because we keep some lights on 24/7 doesn’t mean we can’t also find a way to save energy at the same time.
