Lowry Park Zoo Appreciates Macy’s Help in Volunteer Cleanup

POSTED UNDER By Our Associates

On the heels of Earth Week, Macy’s Credit and Customer Services South completed a beautification project at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. Lowry Park is a non-profit, so volunteerism is critical to their success.  MCCS South had the opportunity to not only support the community, but promote Macy's commitment to social responsibility as well.

Macy’s group of 68 volunteers was the largest single group the zoo has ever hosted. Talk about making a difference. What makes this number even more impressive is the fact that it was a weekday, so many of the volunteers sacrificed their own time, either heading to work afterward, picking up a weekend shift or using their personal time off to participate.

The Macy’s team raked leaves and cleaned up in public areas as well as behind the scenes. Lowry Park put tremendous effort into promoting Macy’s presence at the park, even making regular announcements over the speakers, asking park-goers to thank the Macy’s helpers – and they did!  MCCS South volunteers were stopped and thanked throughout the day, from the park's CEO to other volunteers - even guests.

“Words cannot express my gratitude to the Macy’s Volunteer Team for all of your tremendous effort while working on the beautification project today,” commented Natalie Lamb, Lowry Park Zoo Volunteer Manager. “I am so impressed by the leadership and motivation of your group! What your volunteers were able to do in one morning would have taken our small staff weeks to accomplish!”

Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo has over 3,600 volunteers that participate in the volunteer program on an annual basis, and was rated “The Best Zoo in the US” by Parents Magazine. But they admit they couldn’t achieve this success without the time and dedication given by volunteers. Take a page out of MCCS South’s book - volunteer your time for a cause you believe in. And be a double-threat; pick a cause that promotes sustainability.
