Going Green Goes Glamorous at Bloomingdale’s

POSTED UNDER By Our Associates

Chic recyclable shopping totes, new water boxes, sustainable fashions at the Outlets, and a new solar installation: Bloomingdale’s is lucky to have a laundry list of its latest sustainability accomplishments!

When you think Bloomingdale’s, you think glamour and sparkle. It’s is all those things, of course, plus sustainability-conscious, with shopping bags for all occasions - from the new holiday bag, to the Little Brown Bag, to the new bag for the Outlet stores. Everything is 100 percent recyclable material, natural craft, and Forest Stewardship Council-certified (FSC). You can reuse and recycle your Bloomingdale’s shopping bags and be green in the process.

You may have thought drinking water only came out of faucets and bottles, but at Bloomingdale’s, drinking water is packaged in boxes, with 76 percent of the content coming from trees, making it one of the most sustainable beverage packages available. The trees used to make the boxes come from well-managed forests where trees are constantly replaced as others are harvested. The boxes are shipped flat to the water filler, reducing shipping expense and space requirements. 10 percent of the profits from the sales of water boxes will be donated to world water relief foundations, and an additional 10 percent of the profits will go to reforestation foundations. Fashion can be green as well - a new fashion line, Threads 4 Thought, has debuted at each of the 13 Bloomingdale’s Outlets, featuring tees, sweats, novelty tops, dresses, sweaters and leggings made from plastic bottles (yes, really) and certified organic cotton. Prices range from $9.99-$49.99. See more at threadsforthought.com

Bloomingdale’s new White Plains, New York location will be the sixth largest solar project in New York State with its installation of a 400 kilowatt solar project. Currently, Bloomingdale’s has two other solar projects in operation located in Hackensack and Wayne, New Jersey.

While Bloomingdale’s is incredibly proud of our sustainable progress, we’re still continuously looking for more creative and effective ways to reduce our carbon footprint, keeping green glamorous for decades to come.
