LEED Certification Achieved at Multiple Macy’s Stores

POSTED UNDER Buildings

Congratulations to our Macy’s stores in Bethesda, MD, Coronado, NM, and Cottonwood, NM, for receiving LEED Gold certification.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system that measures the design, construction and operations of high performance green buildings. LEED was developed by the United States Green Building Council to guide the building industry and provide standards for building projects. LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that the structure was built to achieve high performance in key areas of human and environmental health.

Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s have five additional buildings under review for LEED certification:

  • Montgomery Home Store in Bethesda, MD
  • Lakeforest in Gaitherburg, MD
  • Owens Mills in Owens Mills, MD
  • Macy’s Towson, Towson, MD
  • Bloomingdale’s in Chevy Chase, MD

Each of these eight buildings received Energy Star certification in 2013 by the Environmental Protection Agency. Awards, honors and certificates aren’t the reason Macy’s invests so much into sustainable practices, but they are fantastic reminders that we must be doing something right.
