Macy’s Bowie, MD, Store Recognized for Sustainability

POSTED UNDER Partnerships & Awards

As one of the greenest companies in the United States, Macy’s has made sustainability an ongoing priority in stores, distribution centers and support offices across the country and around the world. Our Bowie, Maryland, store is among the most active in going green, and on May 18, the store was recognized as the community’s Green Business of the Year.

According to the city of Bowie, its award winners are committed to help reduce waste, prevent pollution, conserve energy and save resources – and that certainly describes our Macy’s team that backhauls cardboard, plastic film, plastic bags, plastic hangers and office paper to its distribution center for recycling – thereby diverting massive amounts of waste from landfills and reducing Macy’s carbon footprint in the process.

Digital receipts and paperless billing, available throughout all Macy’s stores, further help reduce the load.

New Solar Installation

In October 2015, Macy’s installed a new solar array at the Bowie location which is expected to generate more than 1.3 million kWs in its first year (that’s the greenhouse gas equivalent of more than 2.1 million miles driven)!

Accepted by VP/Store Manager Casey Brandon Buie on May 18, the Green Business of the Year award celebrates creative thinking, hard work and a deep commitment to the environment. Congratulations to our entire Macy’s Bowie team for their deep commitment to sustainability!
