EPA Names Macy’s a Top 20 Partner for On-Site Electricity Generation

POSTED UNDER Partnerships & Awards

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognizes Macy’s as one of its top 20 partners for generating the most sustainable electricity on site.

Sustainable power, coming from renewable resources such as wind, solar, biomass and geothermal is deployed directly at energy users’ facilities rather than at central power plants. This energy generates less pollution than conventional power and produces no net increase in greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the EPA, Macy’s stores in Hawaii and California are generating more than 10 million kilowatt hours of solar power annually, which is equivalent to:

  • 3% of the electricity use of all its stores located in California and Hawaii
  • Cutting out the carbon emissions of more than 1,000 cars per year
  • The amount of electricity needed to power more than 1,000 homes annually

Macy’s ranks in the Top 20 EPA on-site green power users list as well as in the Top 20 EPA retail list of green power purchasers. The EPA has just about the highest standards around when it comes to protecting the environment, so Macy’s is very proud to be recognized, and continue our sustainability crusade.
